Free ICT killzones and session levels indicator for NinjaTrader 8

The day's reference levels are the prices everybody watches: yesterday's, last week's and the overnight high and low, plus each session's open. Many NQ and ES moves start with a sweep of one of them.

This indicator draws them all, marks every sweep and splits the sessions in New York time, so you never have to work out the time-zone math.

What the indicator draws

  • ICT killzones in New York time: Asia 20:00-00:00, London 02:00-05:00, NY AM 08:30-11:00 and NY PM 13:30-16:00, with their high and low extended until price trades through them.
  • PDH/PDL (previous day), PWH/PWL (previous week) and ONH/ONL (overnight).
  • New York midnight open, cash open and previous cash close.
  • An ✕ on every sweep: the wick takes the level and the bar closes back inside.
  • Presets: IctKillzones and SessionsAndAnchors (Asia, Europe and US session boxes).
  • My session (optional, new in 1.1): your trading window every day, with start and end lines and/or a background color, its name and, if you like, its high and low. Times can be entered in New York, Chicago or Spain time, or in your NinjaTrader time zone.
  • Initial Balance (optional, new in 1.1): high and low of the first 60 minutes of the regular session (09:30-10:30 NY on index futures), with its midpoint and extensions, drawn until the regular session close. Same definition as the volume profile IB.
The concept

What killzones and liquidity levels are

Killzones are the time windows where ICT (Inner Circle Trader) places the most purposeful moves: the London open and the New York open above all. Outside them the market tends to move less.

How to use it

How to trade killzones and key levels

A summary of the most common uses. Entry, stop and target rules are in the guide.

  • Asia sweep at the London open

The London open often sweeps the Asia high or low before picking a direction.

  • PDH/PDL sweep in New York

The same pattern with the previous day's high or low during NY AM.

  • Gap between cash close and cash open

The cash open and yesterday's cash close frame the day's gap.

What the evidence says

Previous-day and session levels are objective references that many traders watch. ICT's rules on killzones and sweeps have no public studies showing a statistical edge.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What time zone are the killzones in?

New York time, as ICT defines them. The indicator converts to your NinjaTrader time zone automatically and handles daylight saving changes.

Which trading hours template do I need?

A full-session (ETH) one. With an RTH-only template there is no Asia, London or overnight data.

What does the SessionsAndAnchors preset do?

It draws Asia, Europe and the US session as boxes, with the Europe open, the cash open and yesterday's cash close.

How do I mark my trading hours?

Turn on "Show my session" and enter the start and end in HHMM in the time zone you prefer. For example, 930 and 1130 in NewYork mark 9:30 to 11:30 New York time all year, including the weeks when Europe and the US change clocks on different dates. If the end is earlier than the start, the window crosses midnight.

Does the Initial Balance match the volume profile one?

Yes: both use the same regular session hours in Chicago time and the same duration (60 minutes by default). The chart period must be shorter than the IB: on a 2-hour chart it can't be measured.

Does the schedule adapt to crude oil or gold?

Yes, with "Automatic RTH hours" (on by default). The regular session comes from the product, in Chicago time: indices 08:30-15:00, energy 08:00-13:30, gold 07:20-12:30 (the other metals close at their settlement), Treasuries and currencies 07:20-14:00 and grains 08:30-13:20. It moves the cash open and close, the ORB, the Initial Balance and, in the full sessions, the start of the US session, which follows the regular-session open (also if you set the RTH hours by hand): for crude oil it starts at 09:00 New York time and for gold at 08:20, unless you changed "Europe end" or "America start" by hand. Killzones don't change: they are ICT times, the same for every asset.
